Definitions

To someone in this small world:

I’m not going to accept anyone’s definition of me.
I define myself.
If I want to be weird, I’ll be weird. If I want to look ugly, I’ll look ugly. If I want to go crazy, I’ll go crazy. If I want to dance, for goodness sake, I’m going to dance!
If there’s one thing I hate, it’s labels.
If you say shame on me for not wearing a skirt, then I’ll say shame on you for not wearing pants.
You see, for all you know, you’re all ugly, and I’m the only one who’s pretty.
Opinions are just opinions.
You don’t have the right to make up the definition of beauty.
But, you know, it’s okay to be ugly. In fact, I want to be ugly! It means I’m different than what your imagination says I should look like. It means I’m cool enough to not fit under one mind’s categorization.
Different is good.
I’m beautiful in my own way.
Life is, after all, a very small world.
If I bore you, find someone interesting to talk to.
If I annoy you, there are plenty of “normal” people in this world.
But you know what?
Normal is overrated.
Normal is basic.
Normal isn’t exciting.
Normal isn’t different! It’s BORING.
So if that’s what you’re looking for, then find another girl, because you’re looking at a girl who’s half alien and half bullfighter tough (and that comes with a side of utter bull crap).
Think I’m full of BS? “I do get called b**** a lot. What I do NOT get called is pushover, stupid, sweetheart, dear, or doormat. Works for me.”
You think I’m weird? I think what you mean is I need to watch what I say because I’ll get showed you up one day.
When you see me on the big screen, you’ll see what I mean.
So if you call me quiet, I’ll be loud.
If you call me ugly, oh snap ;) I’ll show you kick butt beautiful because I’m not going to live up to your expectations.
I’m going to shake things up and be surprising and spastic.
Different.
I’ll be myself, that is, exactly who you think I’m not. You don’t know me.
I bet you don’t know me.

I’m sick of hearing people judging. I’ll admit, I judge too, even to my best friends. It just helps to vent your feelings to someone sometimes and it’s extremely hard to resist. But gossip spreads like wild fire. And as you know, one wild fire, takes a whole lot of firefighters to put out, and the damage is still left behind. I think this is why I keep so many journals. Some are to vent about my personal life, and even sometimes I write down my feelings about others, just so I know I can still make out the words without adding fuel to the fire. It’s really a great hobby and definitely calms the emotions. If you don’t keep journals, I’d recommend it! It’s not silly, or weird, or girly. It’s just being you :).

When it comes to looks, I think it’s much more rewarding to focus on the attractive and beautiful attributes instead of the negative ones. In an attempt to become better at doing this, I decided to make a list of beautiful things:

Sparkling eyes,
Smiles,
Dimples,
Freckles,
Sleek and shiny hair,
Gloriously pale or tan skin,
Long eyelashes,
Groomed eyebrows,
Bone structure,
Painted nails,
Cute birth marks,
A facial expression,
Healthiness,
Luscious lips,
Contrasting colors,
The way one walks,
Belly buttons,
Smooth skin,
Soft hands or cheeks.
I could go on forever. Any other ideas for you, world?

I challenge myself to change any desire to insult someone into a precious compliment that will make that person’s day. If you’re a victim or a judger yourself, I challenge you to do the same. If you find yourself thinking, “Eww, this person is just not attractive,” compliment them instead. Having troubles thinking of a compliment? Don’t lie. Think of the little things about them that make that person special. Do something nice for someone. Help them with their books, hold a door open for someone, or just smile and say hello. It’s the little things that count, especially when big gestures aren’t always possible to do. Spread the joy.

What Do I Know?

Dear world,
I was just thinking to myself. Many people have asked me how I would describe myself and I never have an answer. I always end up saying, "I'm just different," which I am. I'm not a part of a clique, though I quite possibly could join several, and I prefer to be the "middle" person. I never describe myself to people because I don't feel as if I can use enough words, or the right words, to do so. It's like having writers block. Now when it comes to writing, I generally always have something to say unless I'm thinking way too many thoughts at once (which is like what I feel when asked to describe myself). When it comes to conversations however, I often don't have a lot to say. I find it easier to stay quiet unless something is worth saying. This is why I'm very laconic.                                                          What do I know?
Some things are meant to be left speechless. You can't describe to a blind person the joy and beauty of what can be seen. You can't put a price on people just as there are never enough words in the dictionary to describe a particular feeling to it's fullest, or in this case, what a person is like. These are few of the many things that came to mind when thinking about myself:

I’m the type of girl who won’t be the first to say hello. I’m the type of girl that smiles when you say her name in the sense that you actually know it. I may not carry on the conversation well but I’m the girl that’s excited just to stand in front of you. I’m the type of girl who will blush when you like what I say. I’m the girl that sits alone listening to anything at all. I’m the girl who stutters in her speech but can’t put down a pencil. I’m the type of girl to laugh at a joke that she doesn’t understand. I’m the type of girl to make her own fairytale.

I’m the girl that stops for a second to breathe in the fresh air. I’m the type of girl to notice the lonesome dandelion across the way. I’m the type of girl to run outside when she sees the ice cream truck like the child I am. I’m the type of girl to chase her own tail until she finds another to pursue. I’m the type of girl that can’t simply sit on the shore without testing the waters. I’m the type of girl to get inspired by the shell in the sand. I’m the girl that waits for the tide to roll in. I’m the type of girl to run away into the woods screaming and dancing and jumping for joy. I’m the tree that stands so tall but falls with the slightest a breeze. I’m the type of girl who will always scrape her knees. I’m the type of girl who will shut down after I stand up.

I’m the type of girl to stare out her window painting pictures in her mind. No matter how many mistakes I make I’ll walk with my head up knowing I’m going to make more. I’m the girl with her arms crossed and eyes wide open. I’m the girl that daydreams and can never focus on only one thing at once. I’m the girl that will fall up and down the stairs and everywhere in between. I’m the girl that can trace her own path back for a thousand years. I’m the girl that won’t remember what was happening right then and there but will remember the date and time and place in the past and what you said then. I’m the girl that will sing in the shower. I’m the girl that will slip on a bar of soap sitting somewhere over her head. I’m the girl that will get in over her head and like it. I’m the girl to splatter dishwater everywhere. I’m the girl to taste dishes from every country in the world. I’m the girl who will throw on the T-shirts and sneakers and put her hair in pigtails just for kicks. I’m the girl who will use a hairbrush as a microphone. I’m the girl that is too afraid to list her favorite songs to you for a fear that you may not like them too. I am a girl that stands high on the sports scoreboard but always has farther to go. I’m the girl that can’t stand anything less than symmetry and perfection. I’m the girl who will spend hours debating on whether or not her bedroom painting is centered. I’m the girl who views moments in life as a picture perfect painting. I’m the girl that can’t keep a secret because she’s too excited. I’m the girl that you won’t find in the same place ever again.

I’m the girl who thinks she’s weirder than an alien that’s out of this world. I’m the girl who rolls on the floor licking her face over the cheesiest songs. I’m the girl that people look up to but I can’t trust myself. I’m the girl who has no clue what she’s doing but knows where she is going. I’m the girl that has everything she could dream of but throws it out for her own insecurities. I’m the girl that looks confident. I’m the girl that thinks she’s confident. I’m the girl who rarely speaks but tells too much. I’m the girl who can’t tell time when she’s out of line. I’m the girl that will tell you everything then regret it. I’m the girl that’s too afraid to complain if you make her upset. I’m the girl that knocks herself silly over the silliest things. I’m the girl that wants to move on but can’t let go of the past. I’m the girl that will take in your harsh remarks with the beating of her heart.
I’m the girl that has nothing to revolve around. I’m the girl that gravity is pulling down. I’m the girl that can’t hold onto her own frown. I’m the type of girl with walls to be knocked down. I am type of girl to ignore what you say until I believe it. I am the type of girl to break things down until they are plain black and white.

I’m the type of girl to randomly get into drama. I may be the type of girl to stay away from the parties but I stay close to the door. I may be single but I’m holding my own hand. I’m the girl that will kiss you then seal her lips after the fact. I’m the type of girl to lie if you ask if I’m in love. Friends don’t choose boys over friends but I’m the type of girl to let you. I’m the type of girl that stumbles on with shaking hands. I’m the girl that tries to be the sweetest thing in the world then lets herself down. I’m the type of girl that will take things too far then fall too short. I’m the type of girl that misses you even if I say I don’t. My heart breaks for what breaks yours.

Sydney's Intro

helloooo world! My name is Sydney. Welcome to the sadieandsydney blog!
This is the announcement of me "hatching" into the blogging world.

I'm a junior in high school; 16 years old.

This blog will be a shared view about surviving high school and everything teenage girls go through. I met my new best friend Sadie less than a week ago! Then two nights ago I had an overwhelming fascination. I thought to myself... I want to start a blog! I've always been into writing and I thought it would be cool to have a partner to do it with, but not just any partner, a best friend! I literally stayed up all night that night. I saw the sunlight!

About me:
I love soccer, singing, dancing, acting, piano, guitar,  MUSIC in general, Taylor Swift, alternative rock, FUZE drinks, pizza for breakfast, writing, texting, stretching for flexibility, acro, mimes, Christmas, shopping, drums, being mysterious, being different, running/working out, and of course SADIE!

I hate chicken pot pie.

At school I'm classified as "quiet."

I just figured out that me and Sadie have SO much more in common than I thought after reading her post! Well, I hate talking about myself for too long and you'll figure out more about me later, so that's all for now! Now we get to the... "meat" of the blog :D.

About Me--Sadie

Hey everyone....Well, anyone who may be reading the blog.
I've never blogged before, but let me start by introducing myself. I'm Sadie, I'm 16, and I'll be in 11th grade this year at a public school in Colorado where I live. I'm not very outgoing, but once you get to know me I'm really pretty open. Something most people don't know about me is that I do have a learning disability where my retention (if you'd call it that) isn't nearly as good as it should be so I have to read something usually at least 5 or 6 times before I fully understand the context of it and can recall details. I also am a little bit dyslexic where I switch letters, numbers, etc...so, just bear with me on that. I will try to always use the spell check thing and re-read through my posts before I publish them, but I might not always catch mistakes. But yeah, so like in school with reading a class book...I read each chapter/section 5 or 6 times in order to fully 'get it' like most students would be able to do after reading it once or twice. After a lot of thinking, I've decided to put this more personal information about me on this blog just because I feel that people reading it will be able to better understand me as I post. I'm not a super intense person; I prefer to just go through life as smoothly as possible...so, I'm pretty chill. Ask me a question, get to know me, but most of all just read this blog!! :)

Some information about myself? Well, I'll make some lists (because if you only take away one thing from this post, make sure to remember that I love making lists) haha...but no seriously. It's kind of my thing...not really but you get the idea :)

Things I love: (here are just a few; there are many)
-lists of things I love
-music
-animals
-reading
-quotes
-optimism
-smoothies

Things I'm interested in:
-marine biology
-science in general
-nature
-animal welfare

Things I hate:
-cruelty to animals
-people who have a pessimistic attitude
-big words that are hard to spell
-the way people label me as 'shy, quiet, and unfriendly' before getting to know me...although, yes. I am fairly quiet and shy....def. not unfriendly though!

Basic get to know you things:
favorite movie (okay, well top 3. haha)-Finding Nemo, I Am Sam, Soul Surfer
favorite book (top 3)-My Sister's Keeper, Marley and Me, The Kite Runner
favorite animal (top 3)-Jelly fish, Commerson's dolphins, Sea Lions
Sports- Soccer!!!
TV- Grey's Anatomy, Arthur
music- Taylor Swift!!! Jack Johnson is pretty great too :)
favorite clothing brand (top 3)- North Face, Adidas, or Nike
favorite part of summer 2011- SEACAMP (San Diego)! ><>

So that covers most of the basics about me....at least, the ones I can think of right now.... :)

I'm going to end with a quote: here's one that I recently discovered in a movie I saw the other day. (It has actually become one of my favorite movies too...So, check it out if you haven't! It's called Soul Surfer.)

"They say the world works in mysterious ways; I say that's an understatement. Who would've thought that teaching a child to surf would teach me that surfing isn't the most important thing in the world, and that something else is. Love. Bigger than any tidal wave; more powerful than any fear." (Soul Surfer)
